The Women in Comedy Festival (WICF) is an annual festival in Boston featuring national headling comedy performers and top emerging talent. Bringing together women and men from all walks of comedy: improv, sketch, stand up, musical comedy, and storytelling stand up, WICF gives audiences a chance to see both local and nationally known comedians, and industry a chance to scout terrific talent. Past festivals have featured stand-up headliner Maria Bamford and alumni from Saturday Night Live including Rachel Dratch and Horatio Sanz. Our goal is to close the gender gap in comedy. The festival is open to submissions from people of all genders.
Volunteer Job Description:
We're seeking candidates for a volunteer position to assist with the build-out of our website, www.womenincomedyfestival.com. Ideal candidates have technical skills related to website development as well as an interest in comedy, the performing arts, and live event production. Web volunteers will work with the WICF Festival Producers on assignments including: web page layout and theming, web content management, site testing, preparing web graphics, and front-end web development.
- Strong HTML and CSS coding skills
- Experience updating and maintaining websites
- Comfortable using a CMS such as WordPress or Drupal
- Ability to work independently and remotely
Bonus / Desired Skills:
The following skills are a plus but not required:
- Experience with Drupal site development/theming
- Experience with CSS media queries and responsive designs
- Basic/Intermediate PHP
- Experience working with jQuery
Flexible. Please indicate availability when applying. You can generally work when it is convenient for you. Occasional online status meetings via Skype or Google Hangout will be required. Ideal minimum commitment of 3-4 hours per week for 2-3 months. Negotiable. We want this to be fun and worthwhile for you too!
This is a volunteer position and does not include monetary compensation. However, we do offer a number of sweet perks to our volunteers including free tickets to headlining shows and access to industry panels, workshops, and festival parties. Candidates will be exposed to the process of producing and marketing a festival and will have an opportunity to apply their technical skills to a creative, fun project. Additionally, you'll get a nice mention on our website and will probably make a lot of new friends.
This is a telecommute/work-from-home position. While on-site work in the Boston area is not required, ideal candidates will be located in the New England region, or will be able to attend the 2014 festival (May 1-4). (After all, you want to see some great live comedy and party with our team, right?)
